Water – the blue gold, symbol of the origin of life
All religions appreciate water as a symbol of purity, life, source of existence and as a gift from God or the gods. In Hinduism, water is the only element considered “immortal” and the Buddhist teachings see it as a symbol for the river of life. In Judaism, the mikvah (living water), a bathing ritual, is carried out with pure running water. One of the core symbolisms in Christianity is baptism, representing death (submerging) and resurrection. In Islam, water embodies the idea of pureness. Water even takes an important role in the ideas of paradise – clean, cold water flows majestically through the Garden of Eden.
“The blood of the planet” (Leonardo da Vinci) is the basis of all life for millions of years. Today, half a billion people as well as half of the worlds large cities are affected by water shortages around the year. Only 0.014 % of earth’s water supplies is easily accessible freshwater (source: Wikipedia).
This fine pendant stands as a symbol for the ever-growing importance of this element. No water – no life! The three waves should remind us to use this „holy bread of the earth“, the pure, cold flowing water mindfully and to be grateful for every drop that is given to us.
